Day #4 – Island Day

Today we went to Brännö island in Gothenburg. A fun fact about this island is that there are no cars allowed on it and you are only able to get there by ferry. To get to the island we had to walk to the closest tram stop, take two trams, one bus, and a ferry. When we first got there we walked to the other side of the island and looked for Susie’s, our professor’s wife, Cove that she had found a couple years ago when they first came here together. Once we got to the Cove we were able to take it all in and take some pictures. On this island there is only one restaurant and unfortunately it was closed this day that we chose to go. So instead of eating at this restaurant, which is what we planned to do initially, we made sandwiches this morning while at breakfast to eat while on the island. We scattered ourselves around the Cove and ate our lunches on the rocks, and for me personally, this was a 100% better option than going to the restaurant.
Here was the view from on top of a tiny hill by the ferry landing before the sunset came. I think the thing I love most about Swedes is there simplistic lives they live. In America we are constantly on the go and constantly looking for the next big thing, but in Sweden they are so content with the smallest things it feels like; they appreciate life for what it naturally gives.
While on the island there were many hills and rocks, so what better thing to do than to climb them? A group of us went around the island after lunch and found the highest point on the island and made it a goal to climb it to the top. However, we only had an hour and a half to explore before we left to go back to the hostel, which we did not think was enough time to get to the top with how difficult the other rocks were to climb. So instead of climbing the highest rock to the top we started walking towards the ferry landing while making pitstops to pet the cats walking around, the dogs being walked, and the lambs on someone’s farm because a day without animal loves is a day wasted.
Here was the lookout from one of the many rocks we climbed; I don’t think anyone could ever get used to these views.
This was taken while we were on the ferry going home and I was trying to defrost my hands with my friends coffee, which just so you know worked very well!
Here was the sunset from the ferry as we headed home. Once we got home we went out to dinner as a group and headed back to the hostel to get a good night’s sleep for tomorrows early day at our first company visit here in Sweden.

Daily Reflections:

– I am starting to think that it is a law to have a coat for your dogs

– Swedish cats are the biggest lovers ever and make me miss my kiddos at home

– When the waiter says that he has a surprise shot for you, odds are you should not take it
